WHY DO I RIDE?
I got into solo 24-hour racing within the first six months of trying mountain biking and I have been hooked ever since. When taking on something like a 24-hour race, you’re able to push your physical and metal limits almost to a point of failure – while in relative safety. As it is with other ultra-distance cycling events, the stage is set and your objectives are clear – ride your bike and forget the rest of the world. That kind of clarity and focus is rare in the modern world. Cycling is your excuse to get out of your head, out of the office and out of your comfort zone. You get out and have a laugh while doing something more exciting! What more do you want?! What originally started as an excuse to push personal boundaries has turned into a passion to help everyone get into the sport with my project the 24 hourcyclist. 24-hour racing has taught me a lot and it should be open to anybody.
THE YEAR AHEAD?
2018 has been a great year for me – I stepped foot on the podium for the first time in the Kielder Chiller and raced in the Elite class at the 24-hour solo mountain bike World Championships. Continuing the momentum from last year; I am kicking off 2019 nice and early with Strathpuffer. This year I aim to become more competitive and race the ‘Puffer, rather than simply ride it. For the rest of the year I will continue to get more competitive as well as taking part in longer, 600km+, multi-terrain single stage races including This Is Not a Tour and The Second City Divide. Ultimately 2019 will see me getting faster and riding further as I prepare for my attempt on the Tour Divide.
